Everything about The Latter Day Church Of Christ totally explained
The
Latter Day Church of Christ is a
Mormon fundamentalist denomination in the
Latter Day Saint movement, and is most commonly known as the
Kingston Clan or the
Kingston Group. The church was created in 1977 by the joint owners of the
Davis County Cooperative Society Inc., a
cooperative created in 1941 and used by the Kingston Clan to manage and hold the financial assets of the group.
The Latter Day Church of Christ is based in
Salt Lake City,
Utah and claims to maintain the beliefs and teachings of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a few caveats. The primary difference is that the Latter Day Church of Christ participates in
polygamy.
Plural marriage is practiced among the community and there have been numerous legal issues regarding this in the state of
Utah. Most familiar of these are the civil cases against Kingston Clan members for having polygamous relationships with members of their
own extended family
, including underage girls. For example, Kingston Clan member Jeremy Ortell Kingston was sentenced to a year in prison in 2004 for having taken a 15 year old girl, LuAnn Kingston, who was both his cousin and his aunt, as his fourth wife in 1994.
There are approximately 2000 members of this group.
The Kingston Clan has a doctrine of intermarriage which began with the second leader of the group,
John Ortell Kingston, who at the age of 30 married his niece, Coreen Gustafson and his half-sister, Kathleen Tucker.
